Korean Public Transportation Guide

Connect airport rail, intercity trains, subways and buses into one practical journey.

National and local systems use different tickets and reservation rules.

Think in four layers

Airport access, intercity rail or bus, city subway and the final local bus are separate layers. Each can use different tickets, stations and operating rules.

Reserve only what needs reserving

KTX and intercity buses may need a specific departure, while ordinary subway and local-bus journeys are usually flexible. Keep reservation details separate from the reloadable transit card.

Transfers need real walking time

Major stations and terminals are larger than they appear on a map. Include corridors, exits, elevators and the walk to accommodation, especially with luggage.

Prepare for the last connection

Check the final useful subway, bus or ferry for the specific direction and date. A late intercity arrival is not helpful if the onward local connection has ended.

Korean Public Transportation Guide FAQ

Does one transit card cover every journey?

No. Many local journeys accept one, but reserved intercity travel normally needs separate tickets.

Should I compare rail and bus?

Yes. The better option depends on the actual origin, destination station and final transfer.
