Korea Transportation Card Guide

Understand where reloadable transit cards are useful and what they do not cover.

Transit cards simplify many subway and local-bus fares, but some intercity tickets need separate booking.

What a transit card is useful for

A reloadable transportation card reduces the need to buy separate fares for many subways and local buses. It is useful across a multi-city trip when supported by the local operator.

What it does not replace

It does not automatically reserve KTX seats, intercity buses, flights or every airport service. Those journeys may require a separate ticket or reservation.

Buying, loading and checking balance

Purchase and top-up locations vary. Confirm accepted payment methods at the machine or counter, keep enough balance for the next journey and check refund rules before leaving Korea.

Transfers and correct tapping

Tap where the local system requires it when entering, exiting or changing vehicles. A missed tap can affect fare calculation or transfer treatment.

Korea Transportation Card Guide FAQ

Does the card include KTX?

No. Reserved intercity rail normally needs a separate ticket.

Can I top up with any payment card?

Do not assume so. Accepted payment methods depend on the location and machine.
